The big 3 0!

First of all, let me apologize for not posting anything for a really long time !

Time passes by way too fast and I guess that I was caught up in the rush …

But something big happened recently ! I turned the big 3.0 !

Trust me, I have given this day a lot of thoughts during many many years. I think that many females do the same but of different reasons.

You guys know the song by Britney ” I am not a girl, not yet a woman” – I was thinking that turning 30 makes me go from a girl to a  woman, so it’s actually about the transformation and some expectations about what I should be doing and be ready for when I am a WOMAN…

Today the 2nd day as 30 – I can conclude that everything is preeeetty much the same as when I was 29. Maybe except the wrinkles and my bad back… 🙂

But the big questions is : “So why did I spent that many thoughts on how it will feel to turn 30 when it’s actually just more rational to go with the flow and see what happens?”

I was all about the ears

Growing up in an Asian family comes with funny superstitions and beliefs on so many things.

I was told that people with big earlobes will get a great life and people with small earlobes are less fortunate. Maybe it comes from how Buddha’s ears were shaped..

How ever even though this sounds a bit weird, I actually carried this theory with me in so years until I started looking at people and their lives..

I discovered that there are NO connections between the earlobe theory and people’s happiness.

I saw that some people with big earlobes are unhappy with their lives and some with small earlobes are happy. I noticed another important thing with the people who were unhappy, they do not act on their unwanted situation and their attitude towards life is less positive.

So I realized 2 great things!

1) the happiness of your life is not a predetermined fate or it is not based on if some of your body parts are shaped in a lucky special way.  The true matter is that you have to take actions and work for it, if you want to achieve “the happy life”.

2 )  Even it sometimes can be difficult, try to keep a positive approach towards life !

I know that this post started off a bit strange but I truly hope that the message is well received at your end 🙂

Take care every one.

C.H.A.R.I.T.Y

I was enjoying my Sunday afternoon with a cup of tea and turned on the TV and saw this commercial for a humanitarian organization, which leads me to writing this post about C.H.A.R.I.T.Y.

During my childhood my dad often told my siblings and I the importance of charity and the fact that if you are able to give anything to people in need, you should do that. I couldn’t agree more with my dad and that’s why I have been supporting Unicef and Folkekirkens Noedhjaelp with a monthly contribution and these 2 organizations have done so much good work for people in need. But there are of course lots of other organizations that do really great work like Amnesty, WFP, WSPA and etc.

But lately I have been supporting the Danish homeless people by buying their news paper “Hus Forbi” by giving dkk 20,- (around USD 3,50) for each. I really love this project “Hus Forbi” and it started back in 1996 in Copenhagen and this gives the homeless people the opportunity to earn their own money by selling the news papers. You give DKK 20 for 1 news paper and DKK 8 goes to the sales man of it and the rest DKK 12 goes to the production, administration and distribution of the news papers.

And the great thing about Denmark is that your contributions to charity can be deducted in taxes, which means you can get some of the contributions back in your pocket.

With this post about charity I just want to tell people that the less fortunate people and also animals out there need our help. So please do not choose to look away on this matter and if you can help out by giving a small contribution or in any other way can help out, please do so.

Happy Sunday!

A tribute to Ellen Degeneres

To my dearest readers, I am sorry for my recent absence due to lack of having anything to share.

But today I would like to dedicate my following post to Ellen Degeneres, one of the world’s most funny person and the reason for this is she makes me laugh when it is needed. Especially on rainy days which Denmark has a lot of 😦

I have watched Ellen’s sitcom, her stand up shows and now her talk show. What I love about Ellen is that she seems like she is an easy going, loving person and I just love the different features she has on her show, like the “Fair and Square Lady” where she wears the ugliest dresses ever and the lines are so corny that I always laugh my behind off.

But what I also love about the show is that she brings people on the show who haven’t been too fortunate and she gives them fortune.

So thanks to Ellen D. for making me laugh and for the work she does.

Happy Friday !

Advice from an older couple!

Last week I accidentally bumped into an older couple which lead me to a wonderful conversation about life in general.

Egon is 84 and Erna is 80 and they have been dating for the last 3 years. They met each other by a coincidence  after their former husband and wife passed away.

They told me that life is funny and that the best advice they can give is to stay positive and always look on the bright side no matter what kind of obstacles we are facing and the fact of trusting that things will work out in the end.

Another important matter is to be grateful for the people around you, your family and true friends ! They are the ones you can count on when life gets tough! And in general just being grateful for all the things we have.

That conversation gave me lots of positive energies! And I am sending them out to all of you!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Success(ful)

I like to daydream, do you like to daydream? When you are daydreaming, what is it about?

I daydreamed about  being successful, I CRAVED for SUCCESS in career!

And so I had spent a lot of time thinking of the word SUCCESS !

I looked it up under wikipedia and it said :

  • a level of social status
  • achievement of a goal
  • the opposite of failure
Thinking of these 3 phrases..It made me realize that my FEAR of failing is making me crave for being successful. But again who wants to start on something and fail on it, right? If i fail on what I am doing, that gives people a reason so say : HA ! And that thought had terrified me in a very long time.
HOW EVER how about the journey towards your goal(s), Anna asked me once.
Well, our conclusion is, trying to reach the goal is actually already a step towards success. It is no doubt a lot better than not taking actions and being left with : I should have done that / how would my life be if I….
Also it is important to think of the things you have learned during the journey !
This blog for me is about inspiring people and even though I haven’t got thousands of readers, the few people who say that I have inspired them, simply make me think: YES!! And also what I have learned is that by writing, it gives me a better insight on my own life.
I bought a book by Patti Digh called “Creative is a Verb” and in this book I found a lot of quotes which inspire me to write and being creative.
This one I would like to share with you guys and hope that it will inspire you to take a step.

While practicing “IT’S POSSIBLE”

Before I start sharing this next TRUE story with you, there is a tiny detail you must know. Like many other people my favorite actor of all time is the talented, great looking and charming Jake Gyllenhaal, and before the NYC journey I had been joking with my friends how awesome it would be to actually see this guy in real person, knewing that the chances were small.

With that being said, one Tuesday afternoon after another great session with Anna Goldstein, I had been told to practice “It’s possible” thoughts. Being born and brought up in a small town in Denmark I had too much of the “It’s impossible” habit, so only what was considered normal ( a regular 9 to 5 job in an office) was POSSIBLE.

So Anna told me that a good start was to reframe this bad habit to “it’s possible” and by doing this, you will not be held back on your actions as much as with “it’s impossible”

And so while I was out shopping for 989 souvenirs to my huge family and friends I practiced “It’s possible” over and over again and after 4 hours of  wandering down the streets in New York I finally went to the market on Union Square to buy some apples before returning to Brooklyn.

And suddenly I see this familiar guy walk passed me and my heart literary skipped a beat as it was THE JAKE GYLLENHAAL in person!  I thought to myself : “Hey,  so it is possible to see him in person!”

Hope that the message on this story is noted on your side and to end this story I would like to share one of my favorite quotes with you :

The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn but to unlearn – Gloria Stenem

Possible vs impossible !

The next sessions with Anna were really interesting, among many topics, we talked about my priorities in the wanted career.

I listed purpose as one of them combined with creativity and working independently. I told Anna that I had thought about writing but I had never really written before. I mentioned that I thought it was unrealistic/impossible because I had lack of experience in writing and also that it would be very difficult to make a living out of it, especially taking Denmark into consideration.

Anna says that it’s all about focusing on the possible and not always thinking of the impossible. Who says that it is impossible? It might not be easy but it is definitely  not impossible.

She suggested me to start a blog, and I was exited about the idea as I already had a concept  for the blog but at the same I was met by some hesitation, because what will people in DK think when they find out that I have made a blog?
